Contact lenses are an excellent alternative for individuals who don’t want to wear glasses every day. Almost everyone is a candidate for contact lenses, including individuals with chronically dry eyes and astigmatism and those who require bifocals.
Our optometrists have experience fitting contact lenses for patients of all ages, including children and infants. Our process is incredibly detailed and helps us find the best contact lenses to suit your visual and lifestyle needs. During your fitting we will also provide you with care instructions and a tutorial about how to put in and take out your contact lenses.
Book your appointment today, so we can find the ideal contact lenses for you.
We will start with a comprehensive eye exam so that we can assess your overall eye health and confirm your prescription. This will let us determine whether or not you are a good candidate for contact lenses.
Next, we will take your eye’s measurements. We do this using an instrument called a corneal topographer and will measure the size and curvature of your cornea. This will allow us to shape your contact lenses so they fit perfectly.
Using all the information we have gathered, we will now explore which types of lenses are best for you. Once we have narrowed it down we will send you home with a trial pair of contacts so you can wear them for a few days and try them out. If you are happy with your lenses we will write you a contact lens prescription and order a supply for you. If your contact lenses still aren’t quite right, we will keep trying until we find a pair that is ideal for you.
Vaughan Family Vision Care is proud to offer a large variety of contact lens brands. These include:
If you have found regular contact lenses uncomfortable, you may want to consider scleral lenses. Scleral lenses offer a little bit extra coverage, extending out over the white part of the eye, making them both more comfortable and more stable. They can also be used to treat a variety of eye-related problems.
Ortho-K lenses are typically used for myopia control, and are made of a special rigid material. Ortho-K lenses are worn overnight, which allows them to subtly change the shape of your child’s cornea while they sleep. During the day your child can then enjoy clear vision without the use of glasses or contact lenses.
Toric lenses are specially designed soft contact lenses for individuals with astigmatism. These lenses are designed with different prescriptions along the horizontal and vertical axes to account for variations in the curvature of the eye that leads to varying amounts of nearsightedness or farsightedness. They also have design features that ensure they rotate to the proper orientation on your eye, and stay there throughout the day. This allows for clear, comfortable and stable vision.
Hybrid contact lenses have a larger diameter than ordinary contact lenses and are made of two different materials. The centre of the lens is made of a rigid, gas permeable material and the peripheral section is made of a soft or silicone hydrogel material. These contacts can provide the visual clarity of wearing gas permeable lenses with the comfort of wearing soft lenses.
These lenses are designed for individuals with keratoconus, allowing the central portion of the lens to vault over the irregularly shaped cornea. They can be used to correct farsightedness, nearsightedness and astigmatism as well.
